Saturday Sessions with Colin

Saturday Sessions with Colin

Saturday Morning Direction

At the last general meeting it was suggested during the discussion that the session could be a forum for providing members with an introduction to new ideas, techniques or even machinery / jig usage.

Colin Dobson, the Saturday session leader, will be on holiday until early July; however, on return he will organise a program which will be promoted in the newsletter & on the web site. Some ideas in no specific order are:

  • Using the scroll saw for intarsia or making toy furniture.
  • Understanding what jigs are available in the workshop.
  • Plans for a toolbox will be available for new members to become familiar with the club’s machinery.
  • Demonstration of how to turn an emerging bowl.
  • Finger joints and / or biscuits for laminating timber.

Members can put forward what they would like to learn and if necessary, the session leader will find someone to meet the request.

SUPPORT SYD JOHNSON – MOVEMBER!

Support Syd's MOVEMBER Campaign!

Syd has been supporting men’s mental health for 19 yrs. and the past 7 have been all about Prostate Cancer. Syd is a prostate cancer survivor (7 yrs. in remission) as are a lot of the members of the shed.

This year Syd has again decided to support Mental health.  Syd has had 1 or 2 spectacular breakdowns and one or two moments of just being blue which is where it all starts.

Movember is working to help men stay mentally healthy, but they can’t do it alone. Please donate to my #Movember efforts and support men’s health.  Contribute to Syd’s campaign for men’s mental health at https://movember.com/m/sydjohnson?mc=1

Chris’s Ukulele

A Ukulele
A Ukulele

It is always interesting attending different sessions during the week. Besides meeting new people, you get to see what they are making. So after dropping in at a Thursday evening session I met Chris Dovey who showed me the ukulele he was making. It looks fantastic. “I was a cabinet maker by trade”, says Chris, “so I am tired of making boxes and I cannot use the lathe so I thought this would be the next best challenge”.

Yes. He plans on making more in the future but “don’t ask me to sing” says Chris
