Saturday Sessions with Colin

Saturday Sessions with Colin

Saturday Morning Direction

At the last general meeting it was suggested during the discussion that the session could be a forum for providing members with an introduction to new ideas, techniques or even machinery / jig usage.

Colin Dobson, the Saturday session leader, will be on holiday until early July; however, on return he will organise a program which will be promoted in the newsletter & on the web site. Some ideas in no specific order are:

  • Using the scroll saw for intarsia or making toy furniture.
  • Understanding what jigs are available in the workshop.
  • Plans for a toolbox will be available for new members to become familiar with the club’s machinery.
  • Demonstration of how to turn an emerging bowl.
  • Finger joints and / or biscuits for laminating timber.

Members can put forward what they would like to learn and if necessary, the session leader will find someone to meet the request.

Mother's Day BBQ Thank You

Thank you to all of our members who volunteered, a great effort. Beautiful weather as the day progressed and didn’t keep the public away.  Crowds were down on this special day of looking after mothers. We were a bit short on volunteers but special thanks to Paul Dobbs, Candice West and Roger Corfield who joined me for a double shift during the afternoon.

Open Day Success!

OPEN DAY A HUGE SUCCESS!

The Open Day was a great success, both in the promotion of the woodworking club, our new shop and in seeking new members.

The public is now aware of the shop and our club. Noel Archdall, our membership coordinator, said we may have six new members from the day. And, Dennis Conner, our woodworking shop manager, said there was good interest and sales at the shop.

The Southern Peninsula Classic and Historic Car Club displayed some amazing cars.

It was a great day for everyone.  Many thanks to everyone who helped make it a great success!

Toy Handover a Big Success

The 2022 Toy Handover from the Woodworkers of the Southern Peninsula to various charity groups happened again this year on 30 November.  The club created and donated over 600 toys to the Food for All, Salvation Army and Mornington Community Support Centre charities for distribution to needy children on the Mornington Peninsula.  The annual toy handover was a huge success again this year and much appreciated by all of the receiving organizations.  Full details of the toy handover can be found in our December 2022 Newsletter

SUPPORT SYD JOHNSON – MOVEMBER!

Support Syd's MOVEMBER Campaign!

Syd has been supporting men’s mental health for 19 yrs. and the past 7 have been all about Prostate Cancer. Syd is a prostate cancer survivor (7 yrs. in remission) as are a lot of the members of the shed.

This year Syd has again decided to support Mental health.  Syd has had 1 or 2 spectacular breakdowns and one or two moments of just being blue which is where it all starts.

Movember is working to help men stay mentally healthy, but they can’t do it alone. Please donate to my #Movember efforts and support men’s health.  Contribute to Syd’s campaign for men’s mental health at https://movember.com/m/sydjohnson?mc=1
