News for the general club membership

Successful Intarsia demonstration

Cathy Wise, International Intarsia artist, was well received last week. She made the platypus with such speed the audience were blown away. It is exciting watching a skilled expert. Wether members take up the art or not she had lots of useful tips that could be used in other areas.

Cathy prepared well for her tour as she designed plans for many Australian animals.

Wood Sale

The Club has been lucky enough to be given a large amount of various timbers. This wood has been generously donated by a local family. We have also been given a quantity of turned segmented bowls.  Over the next few weeks, you will see these timbers stockpiled at the workshop. The wood includes Huon Pine, Silky Oak, Nectarine and a large range of other exotic timbers.

This wood is for sale now until sold out to all members at an extremely low cost. Money raised from sales will go directly to the club to buy more equipment for the members to use.

Timber Available

At the recent WoSP working bees the workshop & container has had a real clean up. An excellent job has been achieved by the volunteers. Thanks for the time you contributed to help.

The container has been cleaned up and a lot of timber not required for toys has been discarded and has been dumped by the container. You are invited to review what is there at any time and take what you need.

Joining Fee

At the last AGM it was agreed by members to increase the joining fee to $85. New members will now receive a club cap together with a name tag. This action was taken with the aim of having more members wear club colours. The annual fee will remain at $60.

Workshop Landscaping

Planter Boxes Added

As each week goes by the workshop is becoming more settled. Currently Gordon Waddingham is building a store room in the SW corner to house the merchandise, club security cameras & documentation. Planter boxes have been built by Dennis Conner & Hillview Quarries have donated the plants in each box. These have been placed to keep parking away from all garage doors.

Still lots to do but everything looks great

Relocation Status

A lot has been done to date but still a lot has to be done before sessions commence. Many thanks to the volunteers who have provided assistance in making things happen.

In general, a new kitchen has been installed into the meeting room. Yesterday the machinery & container has been moved. Tomorrow it is planned to have the machinery connected to the dust extraction system.

Some but not all things needing to be completed

  • the container has to be emptied.
  • Some of the machinery has to be bolted to the floor.
  • Safety dividers have to be made to separate the lathes.
  • Places need to be found to store hand & power tools
