At the recent WoSP working bees the workshop & container has had a real clean up. An excellent job has been achieved by the volunteers. Thanks for the time you contributed to help.
The container has been cleaned up and a lot of timber not required for toys has been discarded and has been dumped by the container. You are invited to review what is there at any time and take what you need.
On Monday 20th Jan the WoSP workshop sessions begin for 2020. This year 2 new sessions have been added to the weekly program.
On Thursday mornings at 9am Rod Bew will be conduct classes for members wanting to develop their wood turning skills and Colin Dobson will open up the workshop at 9am on Saturday mornings for general wood working.
A recent committee meeting agreed to make a $500 donation to a fund for the bush fire victims.
Additionally, the committee will approach Bunnings & request a date to run a BBQ where all the money raised will go to a Fire Victims Fund.
Kathy Wise is a wood artist and sculptor based in Michigan USA. She has been designing intarsia patterns and murals for almost 20 years, and has published four books on intarsia.
Intarsia is a woodworking technique that uses varied shapes, sizes, species and colour of wood fitted together to create a mosaic-like picture with an illusion of depth. After selecting the specific woods to be used within the pattern, each piece is then individually cut, shaped, and finished.
Carbatec has partnered with Kathy Wise to offer an Intarsia demonstrations at WoSp on Friday 28th February 2020 10:00am – 1:00pm. It is a FREE EVENT and the activity will be advertised amongst other clubs & Men’s Sheds so it is necessary to register by calling Greg Millar 0410 280 695.
With the club’s transfer to the Vern Wright Reserve it has been able to commence Saturday morning sessions from the 23th November.
Colin Dobson will be the session leader on Saturday mornings.
So if you are a home handyman who works during the week and need access to a few extra tools or machinery, check out the club and see if it can meet your needs.
Most members have known someone with cancer. These days it is not necessarily a death sentence and that is due to the advanced knowledge of medical science.
One member who has survived the challenge of cancer is Steve Johnson and each year he celebrates by fund raising to continue the research into prostate cancer. You can assist him by using the following link to donate: https://mobro.co/sydjohnson?mc=1
As the club is restricted in having evening sessions it is considering having Saturday morning sessions. Possibly 9am – midday or 10am – 1pm.
Let the club know if this interests you via email wosp3939@gmail.com
At the last AGM it was agreed by members to increase the joining fee to $85. New members will now receive a club cap together with a name tag. This action was taken with the aim of having more members wear club colours. The annual fee will remain at $60.
