News for the general club membership

Relocation Status

A lot has been done to date but still a lot has to be done before sessions commence. Many thanks to the volunteers who have provided assistance in making things happen.

In general, a new kitchen has been installed into the meeting room. Yesterday the machinery & container has been moved. Tomorrow it is planned to have the machinery connected to the dust extraction system.

Some but not all things needing to be completed

  • the container has to be emptied.
  • Some of the machinery has to be bolted to the floor.
  • Safety dividers have to be made to separate the lathes.
  • Places need to be found to store hand & power tools

Betty Receiving her Honary Membership

At the WoSP “Workshop Wake” John Bayliss presented Betty Present a Honary Membership to the club for her past work in the development of the club to what it is today.

In the early 00’s Betty was a key figure in raising funds & planning the workshop which was officially opened in 2002.

Then Betty started work promoting a swimming pool for the area. As the site chosen for the pool involved the space used by the WoSP workshop meant WoSP needed a new workshop.

After a lot of planning & patience WoSP has a new home at the Vern Wright Reserve, Capel Sound

On the 13th July WoSP members celebrated relocating to a new workshop at the Vern Wright Reserve, Capel Sound. For 22 years the WoSP workshop was at Besgrove St., West Rosebud. Once the Council decided on the location of the swimming pool, it was inevitable WoSP would require a new home.

Long term members thought the new workshop incredible. They discussed how hard it was to establish themselves in the Council allocated gardener’s shed in 1995. “We did not have a 5 year plan” they explained, “nevertheless we are proud of what has grown from our humble beginnings”.

Wosp new workshop status

Before the construction of the Rosebud Swimming Pool can commence the Woodworkers of the Southern Peninsula (WoSP) workshop needs to be moved from outside the council offices to its new premises at the Vern Wright Reserve in Capel Sound.

Currently the slab to the workshop has been poured, the storm water has been added & the pest controller has treated the slab for termite prevention.

It is anticipated the WoSP will relocate to the new workshop by the end of May. Refer to wosp.com.au

New Workshop Progress

The anticipation of the new workshop being built at Vern Wright Reserve, 2-4 Shearwater Place Capel Sound is starting to materialise. After a number of delays the form-work has been done which includes all the required plumbing.

Currently the relocation from the Besgrove Street Workshop to the new workshop is expected to be sometime in May.

Stay tuned for further updates.
