I hope you have the opportunity to do some wood work at home.
For a start I plan on cleaning up the garage and then look at the timbers I have at hand & start preparing future projects .
As of today, 16th March, the wood workers workshop will be closed for the next 4 weeks. This is due to the current State of Emergency that has been declared in Victoria.
At the moment this means the club will not be open until after Easter.
The committee will keep members updated when the workshop will reopen.
The committee of the Woodworkers of the Southern Peninsula would like to thank Hillview Quarries on their continued support of the club over a number of years. Their genorosity has enabled the club to continue growing and improving membership and support the making of toys for underprivileged local children.
Thank you again Hillview Quarries.
All members are invited to attend the next General Meeting at midday on Wednesday 11th March.
Members do not have many opportunities to show the items they have made so you are also invited to bring in the projects you are proud of for display.
Over the midday luncheon you will have an opportunity to peruse & gather ideas of possible future projects.
The General Meeting will start at 1pm. Since the last General Meeting there have been many changes & improvements and there are more to come.
Some of the agenda items are:
Many members have very interesting skills and Tim Fox has been asked to introduce the work he has done with resin. From knowing very little about resin Tim has gradually built up his knowledge and has completed some interesting projects.
Some of his work will be on display over the luncheon period. Kate Martin will also show some of her interesting creations
Cathy Wise, International Intarsia artist, was well received last week. She made the platypus with such speed the audience were blown away. It is exciting watching a skilled expert. Wether members take up the art or not she had lots of useful tips that could be used in other areas.
Cathy prepared well for her tour as she designed plans for many Australian animals.
American wood artist, Kathy Wise will be giving a demonstration at the WOSP workshop this Friday the 28th of February from 10.00am till 1pm. Kathy is on a national tour demonstrating her amazing talent. Do not miss this free session.
The club will also be putting on lunch and there will be wood available to purchase on the day.
The Club has been lucky enough to be given a large amount of various timbers. This wood has been generously donated by a local family. We have also been given a quantity of turned segmented bowls. Over the next few weeks, you will see these timbers stockpiled at the workshop. The wood includes Huon Pine, Silky Oak, Nectarine and a large range of other exotic timbers.
This wood is for sale now until sold out to all members at an extremely low cost. Money raised from sales will go directly to the club to buy more equipment for the members to use.
Woodworking member Laura Disbrey sanding her newly made chopping board. New members are welcome. Why not come down and learn a new skill and get creating. Check “KEY DATES” & “Session Times” for club availability.
